Ajax Star Hakim Ziyech has officially completed his Move to Chelsea
Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Hakim Ziyech from Ajax for a fee of just €45m
The playmaker from Morocco has agreed to spend the rest of the season with Ajax before officially joining up with Chelsea in the summer of 2020.
Ziyech is Frank Lampard’s first signing as Chelsea manager which has been a long time coming and it’s a deal that will more than likely leave the most of Europe’s large clubs extreamly frustrated as a result of Chelsea obtaining an absolute steal despite the €45m price tag.
The 26-year-old is known across Europe as one of the best attacking midfielders in world football. Ziyech has been scoring and assisting for fun with Ajax for the past 2 seasons and has been watched by many high profile clubs hoping to gain the signature of the highly promising player.
Get this, in just 49 games last season for Ajax in 2018/19, Ziyech managed to score a total of 21 goals and assisted his team on 24 occasions.
This season Ziyech the former FC Twente star has once again continued his prolific form scoring 8 times and creating 21 assists in just 29 matches. Now it is easy to understand why Chelsea were determined to gain his signature.
Tammy Abraham has made the forward position his own this season so far with the likes of Olivier Giroud struggling to gain game time under Frank Lampard since his appointment. Abraham is as it stands the only Chelsea player to have scored more times than the Moroccan in 2019/20 with a total of 15 Goals. No other Chelsea player has registered more than six assists in all competitions. The question now is how will both Abraham and Ziyech link up next season? Is this the new addition that Chelsea fans have been waiting for since the departure of Hazard?
Ziyech will inevitably bring a much-needed balance and flair to the Chelsea midfield which currently lacks a creative spark.
The Dutch-born midfielder started his professional career back in 2012 with Heerenveen, before moving to FC Twente in 2014.
After a successful 2015/16 campaign during his time at FC Twente, Ziyech managed to net a total of 29 goal contributions, 17 goals and 12 Assists in only 34 Games. Then came the Dutch champions Ajax who opted to bring the Moroccan to Amsterdam for a fee of around €11m.
Looking back now the €11m paid by Ajax was a great bit of business done by the club. Ziyech is now the third most expensive sale made by the Ajax, behind Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt.
All the signs point to Ziyech being one of the signings of the summer thats for sure, however as we have seen over the years you just never know how a player will adapt to the demands of the Premier League.
Let’s put this into prospective, below you will find 5 Premier League players which cost more than Ziyech and are yet to make their mark in such a demanding league.
1. Nicolas Pepe to Arsenal – £72m
To sign Pepe the Gunners had to pay almost double the fee of the Ajax star Ziyech. The 24-year-old definitely has time on his side thats for sure but just how much time are Arsenal willing to give the young prospect?
2. Joao Cancelo to Man City – £59m
Manchester City made the signing a full-back Cancelo for close to £60m yet he doesn’t even regularly make the starting XI. Not the best bit of business done by City.
3. Sebastien Haller to West Ham – £45m
Haller this season has not proven his worth since moving from Eintracht Frankfurt, scoring only six goals in 24 games. For the £45m price tag paid by West Ham, surely they expected more goals.
4. Gylfi Sigurdsson to Everton – £45m
As a result of the players seemingly lazy performances as of late Everton fans have really turned on the Iceland playmaker in recent months.
5. Joelinton to Newcastle – £40m
Being from Newcastle ourselves this one hurts us. The Brazilian striker who had huge potential has scored just one Premier League goal for Newcastle this season, that’s simply not good enough.
